Is it me, or have beauty product names gotten longer and longer? It’s like companies want you to know everything that is in the product and what it can do for your skin, just from the title. Actually, I find it makes it harder to remember a product’s name or what it does.  But I digress. Enough of my mini rant, let’s get into my review of the Good Housekeeping award-winning Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C BB Cream SPF 20, $14.99.

Lumene is a Finnish skincare company that has been creating products for the last 40 years. To develop their unique products, they combine the unmatched powers of wild Arctic nature along with pioneering technology. In their BB cream, these ingredients and technologies include Artic cloudberry and encapsulated vitamin C technology.

The cloudberry is used to protect and detoxify your skin, while the encapsulated vitamin C allows for time-released skin penetration. In addition to the cloudberry and vitamin C, the BB cream is formulated without parabens, formaldehyde donors, mineral oil, or synthetic colorants.

As with most BB creams, the Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C BB Cream offers six daily benefits, including:

  •  Anti-aging
  • Brightening
  • Hydrating
  • Protecting
  • Covers imperfections
  • Evens skin tone

The Lumene BB cream is available in two shades, Light and Medium. Since I am the pale girl in the family, I used the Light, and enlisted my mom, who has a more olive skin tone, as a tester for the Medium. We both had the same exact results. Each cream blended easily, and matched our skin tones perfectly. The Lumene BB Creams also provided a nice coverage and helped to even out our skin tone. Plus, unlike other BB and CC creams I have tried, the Lumene didn’t oxidize on the face throughout the day.

Unfortunately, that is where the positive traits stop. Neither myself, nor my mom, found the Lumene BB cream to be hydrating or brightening. In fact, our skin looked dull and felt extremely dry. We both found ourselves wanting to add extra moisturizer to our skin to relive the dryness. This is an issue I have found with other BB creams. They tend to be more mattifying, which is ideal for oily or combination skin, but not for dry or very dry skin. The drying effect may be linked to one or more of the ingredients in the product, but I’m not sure which ingredient(s).

Bottom line: At 14.99, the Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C BB Cream SPF 20, 1.7 oz., is a great deal. With only two color shades to choose from, Light and Medium, it is a bit limiting, especially for anyone with darker skin tones, or even varying undertones. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, if you have dry skin, this BB cream will probably not work for. However, if you have oily, normal, or combination skin, the Lumene BB Cream might be just right for you.
